Music fans now have a chance to invest in musicians and even take a share of the profits, should the band become successful.
Slicethepie is a new startup that is hoping to provide the tool to connect Musicians with fans.

From the site ..
* Artists can raise money directly from their fans to professionally record albums
* Fans can become emotionally and financially involved at all levels of the music industry – scouting, breaking, investing in and influencing real artists
* Investors can gamble on, trade in and profit from the success of these artists
* Artists who secure finance pay Slicethepie a small royalty on album sales but keep all their copyright and publishing rights.
Proving that you really can let your consumers own and manage your brand .. even if it’s a football (or Soccer) team, My Football Club is attempting to buy an English soccer team.
Anyone can signup to own a share in the team for 35 pounds, and each member gets a vote in how the club is run, what players are selected etc.

Director Alex Jovy has come up with a novel way to get the masses to come out and see his next film: he’s inviting them to be part of the film-
making process.
Itsourmovie.com is a collaborative idea where anyone can audition online, vote for casting or invest. Alex has raised 120K pounds of a planned 1.2 million, and you can invest even if yuou only have 10 pounds. You can read a Synopsis of the film, which has a working title of “The Flirting Club”.
Google in Australia have launched a doodle 4 google competition which encourages school aged kids to design their own Google icon based around an Australian theme.

Consumers will have a chance to vote for their favourite entries, and the overall winner will have their doodle featured on the Google Australia homepage on Australia Day 2008.
Perspective: This is a nice touch by Google to promote their business with schools and also to encourage participatory consumer generated media.
Social networks continue to gain in popularity, and it’s no surprise that niche social networks have started to emerge.
Take Geni .. the social network aimed at family relatives. It has an extremely nice family tree interface, which lets you add in your relatives. Pretty soon, those relatives add their relatives .. and the tree grows. My tree started with about 10 people and within 2 weeks now has nearly 100 entries. (only the first 10 were added by me).

As a follow to our post on Google Sketchup, the designers at Form Font 3D have created a bunch of Ikea furniture 3D models to help you sketchup your home.
Perspective: This is a great example of a traditional company embracing the digital world to help ensure their products are top of consumer minds. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ikea or other frontiering furniture companies created a furniture store in Second Life .. like this store or this one.

If Podcasting (define), was one of the big things of 2005, Vodcasting or Vidcasting (define) is set to become huge in 2006.
Examples are already popping up at vodcasts.tv and search for video.
Apple have even posted instructions on how to make a video for your ipod.
Here’s a sample Vidcast of Apples new Vpod
I think there is enormous potential for Marketeers to provide niche content that can be viewed by interested consumers. The BMW films was a good example of what can be done, but I think Vidcasting will allow low budget productions to really take off.
As Blogs, Forums, Newsgroups, and Opinion / review sites gain in both numbers and popularity, the purpose for “going online” is also changing. Rather than going online to “check the email and local football results”, consumers are spending a larger percentage of time online discussing, sharing and learning. Ironically, sharing of knowledge and opinions is where the internet began.
Is is possible that we are returning to days of old where people would gather at the market place to discuss new spices and fabrics found in distant lands?
The world of Henry Fords “You can have any colour you like, as long as it’s black” is rapidly ending. Customisation and personalised products are becoming increasingly popular and the price premium seems to be reducing as the demand grows
Some examples?

Japanese stickers
The Japanese fad of getting 16 or so stickers printed out from a photo booth, is a popular way of personalising books, computers and other possessions.
